San Benito County Backroads: Tres Pinos, Paicines, and the Cienega

9:30 AM to 5:00 PM

A rare opportunity to travel the back roads with a homeboy and locals eager to share their amazing stories. Was Paicines really Tres Pinos? And where did the infamous robbery by Tiburcio Vasquez occur? We'll discuss Southern Pacific's days as "end of the line." And we'll visit a place being torn apart by the San Andreas Fault.

Fee: $45.00 Fee will include a donation to the San Benito County Historical Society.

Lunch: You should bring your own lunch. We'll provide water, sodas, and treats.

Itinerary: We will meet at a location on the south side of Hollister (registrants will get directions to our point of beginning), and then visit the San Benito County Cemetery, traveling along the edge of the San Benito River, exploring Tres Pinos, San Benito County Historical Park (Bolado Park), Paicines, and then looping up into the Gabilans, stopping at the DeRose Winery in the Cienega and savor a bit of wine before dropping down and back to where we began.

The DeRose Winery is being torn apart, literally, by the San Andreas Fault. You'll be able to see where North America is stitched to the Pacific.
Amount of walking: We will travel by private automobile, and there will be approximately 2 miles of walking throughout the day.

This adventure is not appropriate for those under 21 years of age.
